The Wordsmyth-

Christian Curet

I hail originally from a small town outside of Pittsburgh. I worked almost every job imaginable, trying my hand in as many fields as I could until I discovered that I really wanted to teach. I went back to school and in 2010, I graduated from Millersville with a BSE in English Education and started teaching High School English, primarily upperclassmen Honors Students. From that time, I have assisted hundreds of students on their College Application Essays and thousands more with  language reading skills. I returned to college, again, to continue my work on my first love, writing. In 2025 I received my Masters in Creative Writing from Wilkes University. I am taking those skills and employing them with my students, but also exploring new avenues. I have been writing, off and on, for over thirty years, but only recently I've been published in several anthologies and websites. I now have three books in the works, one of which is currently being queried with several agencies and publishers.

I live in Bethlehem, PA with my wife of 25 years and my three kids. It's where I teach High School English, I write, and try to fix my house. I enjoy the outdoors, I hike, I bike, I enjoy a lot of live music, and, occasionally, I blacksmith.

Testimonials

As a former Honors English 12 student, Speech & Debate team member, and now practicing attorney, I can confidently say that Mr. Curet had a lasting impact on both my academic success and my personal growth.

His talent as a writing coach extends far beyond grammar, structure, and editing. He has a unique ability to see potential in his students and help them develop the confidence to share their voices. He edited my college admissions essay, coached me through numerous speeches and debate arguments, and taught me how to communicate professionally and persuasively—skills that I use every day in my legal career.

Looking back, he wasn’t just a teacher or debate coach. He was a mentor who challenged me to think critically, write effectively, speak confidently, and believe in myself. He played a meaningful role in helping me find the courage to pursue college and ultimately law school. The lessons he taught me continue to influence my career and my life today.

Mr. Curet made writing essays fun! That is something I never thought I’d say. Thanks!

Overall this class was a great experience that I looked forward to everyday. I really like English but I have to have a teacher that can teach it well. I love your teaching style and I wish every teacher taught it this way. I feel like I can take so much more away from the class, rather than just how high I can get on a test.

As my writing teacher, he consistently went above and beyond to help me succeed. He was always willing to take the time to explain concepts, correct my grammar, and provide constructive feedback that helped me become a stronger writer.

What made Mr. Curet stand out was his dedication to his students. He was approachable, patient, and genuinely cared about our success both inside and outside the classroom. He often stayed after school to offer extra help and never made anyone feel like their questions or struggles were a burden. His encouragement gave me confidence in my abilities and motivated me to continue improving.

Beyond being an excellent teacher, Mr. Curet is an outstanding person. He treats his students with kindness, respect, and understanding, creating a positive learning environment where everyone feels supported. I am grateful for everything he taught me, and I will always remember him as one of the most influential and inspiring teachers I had

I am writing to show my great appreciation for you not only as an individual but as an English teacher. Over this past semester your support and guidance have meant a lot to me. Looking back through my work, I can see true areas of growth. One of my greatest strengths this semester has been learning to write more precisely. Your feedback helped me write for others' understanding, and cut back on the clutter in my essays. This has taught me to stay focused on my topics and craft them to be impactful. Beyond improving my writing skills, this class has also been an environment where I have safely learned more about myself, my voice, and how I express my thoughts.  I am grateful for your flexibility. I deeply thank you for your patience and for creating an environment where I felt seen both as a student and as an individual. Thank you again!

You made English really fun & enjoyable for me this year, & I really appreciate it! You always ensure me that I will get to where I need to be regardless of the path I take. You’ve given me much needed advice and helped me through countless problems (English related & not). I hope to remember all of the life and English lessons you have taught me.

I improved a vast amount in majority of my skills in English. Most notably I believe I strengthened my ability to integrate supporting evidence in my writing to support the details leading up to it. I also notice an improvement in how I formulate my thesis statements as last year I absolutely despised writing them. Instead of just dropping quotes randomly and hoping that it supports the details I can now integrate them more naturally into the writing piece so it provides more context. Even when a writing piece would get difficult instead of just saying good enough I would go back and expand on the difficult part. This growth through the semester is something I would consider a major success.

The strengths I’ve gained were probably being able to really emphasize emotional feelings in my writing and going in depth with it. Personally I don’t think I’m that much of a good writer, but you helped me really enjoy writing anything personal, I gained a sense of realism while writing, I like to write to make the reader feel comfortable to let them seem I’m a human if that makes sense.
